I have always been in the camp of "twitter is cancer", everything from the formatting to the limited characters lends to the worst form of interaction possible where pithy comebacks and short quips are the norm when it comes to responses. Not being on it at all since I started following DR politics I can honestly say I don't feel like i've missed anything. Almost any time anyone is referring to it it's always some extremely gay drama between niche factions I have nothing to do with (the forementioned Orthobros vs Pagangang one being a prime example, or the recent spat between Sargon and Peter Hitchens). Maybe it's because I have spent so long ion the internet at this point but I have no tolerance for spergery, purposeful obtuseness or inauthentic discussions anymore. If I am going to be talking to someone I want to know that they are actually engaging with me and not just using it as an opportunity to find a chink in the armor they can take advantage of for making an attack. I appreciate that some people are able to achieve something productive on it, but that's a talent it seems like most of the users in the space simply don't have. For those people who can effectively use it to spread their ideas and not fall into the trap of drama wars and clout chasing more power to you.
Good piece Prude. I get really tired seeing the same retarded slap-fights over a myriad of non- or barely-issues that seem to consume much of rw Twitter. Useful as the site is for networking it’s a digital ghetto.
I joined many Twitter years after I had begun consuming the long form intellectual output of this sphere. There were some tough moments when I saw how petty a few of the squabbles the names I most respected were involved in.
Some people have really mastered Twitter as a tool - others should absolutely stay away.

I agree: Morgoth's Substack is worth the subscription.

Great post.

Always hated high school drama, and I hate internet drama too. I don’t care. Thanks for being the peacemaking voice of reason, Prude. Great article.
