I’m catching up on my substack backlog, so forgive the late comment.
If you haven’t already seen it Prud, I highly recommend The Right Stuff(1983) about Project Mercury and the pre-Apollo test pilots. It’s a long one, but it’s really good and celebration of the accomplishments of Western Man.
I enjoyed this article. I grew up watching and reading Sci-Fi and always enjoyed it as a genre. I’ve never seen The Martian, however it’s not a new story. It’s reminiscent of the 1964 film Robinson Crusoe on Mars. You can check out the trailer on YT. Sci-Fi is like many other genres of film and books; the same story is retold, but with creative variation sufficient to make the new story interesting. I’ll have to check out The Martian.
I still like Heinlein, Norton, Blish, Asimov. Lately, I don't read too much Sci-fi, because it's boring.
There's no sense of adventure.
Great work, prude.
Thanks.

Be careful what you wish for.

Great piece, but I was a little bit disappointed. I expected a write-up on the game Space 1889. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wait for that one.
